2. Studio Policies
Please review and adhere to our Studio policies:
- The Studio is located in my home in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Please be careful driving down our street. Please park in the driveway or grass in front of the studio (there are at least 6 spaces available) instead of on the street. We love keeping our neighbors happy so please keep noise to a minimum when entering and exiting, and make drop-off/pick-up time a quick as possible to avoid congestion. If you'd like to talk to your friends after class, please move the conversation to another location! There is often only a 15-minute window between classes.
- Since the Studio is located in my home, I only give out the address to registered students. Please take care in how you share!
- The Studio has its own entrance on the side of my home. There is a bathroom and sink connected to the studio that students may use. The Studio is connected to the main home through a laundry room. Students are asked to not go into the main home or into the back yard without permission/adult supervision.
- The Studio is a smoke-free, curse-free, negative attitude-free, pet-free, weapon-free zone. Please do not bring these into our space!
- For everyone's safety, the studio is monitored by video through indoor & outdoor Ring cameras. As long as there are at least 2 students, parents are allowed to drop off students. If the class is private and only has one student, a parent or other adult is required to stay. My business liability insurance and home insurance is contingent upon this "3-person" rule. Parents are always allowed to stay, so there are often other adults in the room. No child is ever left alone with an adult.
- Since space is limited, it doesn’t really work for siblings who are not attending the class to tag along. Creativity requires concentration and can be greatly affected by sibling disruptions. Parents, if at all possible, please find alternative care for siblings if you plan to stay.
- Art Supplies and Tools are expensive. Students will be taught how to respect the studio property and are expected not to waste materials and to clean up after themselves. If a student intentionally destroys property, you may be held responsible for repair or replacement.

Group Classes FAQs:
1. How many weeks am I signing up for? Classes usually occur in 8-12 week semesters. You pay every 4 weeks and can stop at the end of a 4-week period if the fit is not right.
2. Are the lessons spread out over a few weeks or are they self-contained? Most ArtMix, Sketching Skills and Painting Skills classes are either self-contained or spread over 2 weeks. Teen Painting & Drawing classes usually finish one larger work and a few smaller “experimental” pieces over the course of a month.
3. Do I pay upfront or at the end? Classes are expected to be paid upfront/scholarship funds held upfront. However, this first month, if your scholarship funds have not yet come in, you can transfer funds as soon as you receive them. Personal payment is expected upon completion of the first month if you still have not received your disbursement (I will provide the paperwork needed for reimbursement).
4. Do students get to take home their work and do they get to show their work? Students often take home their work at the end of the day. Paint-the-Masters classes tend to take home their work after 4-6 weeks. There are times throughout the year that students will get to show their work.
5. What is your teaching style? Is it more self-initiated experimentation or step-by-step instruction? I feel I have a great balance between the two. Students need to have the autonomy to experiment and show their own creativity, yet they also need to learn basic skills. Many lessons begin with step-by-step instructions but then allow space for self-expression. Much practice needs to take place for skills to be developed, so often the work produced may not be “refrigerator-worthy.” Children need to be given space to try, to fail, and to succeed. I encourage students to keep a sketchbook and practice daily.
6. Are there certain classes geared toward self-expression? Yes! “Creative Spark” is a class that gives artistic prompts through decks of cards and students are allowed to experiment in self-expression. Also the “Blank Canvas” class allows students to receive help in creating their own original work of art.
7. Do you offer adult classes? Yes! Gather a few friends and claim one of the Private Lesson slots or talk to me about scheduling a time for your class.
8. Do your homeschool classes go all year long? I usually just follow the public school schedule for group classes and then do weekly camps during the summer months, but if enough students wish for a year-long class, I am open to trying to make it work in the schedule.
9. Do you offer virtual classes or in-home classes? Currently I do not. I no longer have the ability to drive due to double vision issues so I no longer teach in family homes. As for virtual classes, I’d love to offer that in the future but currently do not have the camera set-up to do it effectively.
10. Do you offer any referral incentives? Yes! If you refer a friend and they mention your name at registration, your child gets to draw a prize from the “Art Treasure” box! Usual prizes include canvases, art supplies, art books, and free class coupons.
